The repair and assembling shop is the craftman's most holy place. The place where he manufactures his products or repairs vehicles he rarely allows "outsiders" to sniff around. This is a look behind the scenes...
Let's start with the car repair shop. For many drivers it can be difficult to give away their car for repair or inspection.
After the roller door to the garage has closed they fear for the salvation of their status symbol.
While it is not very welcomed it is possible that you can take a look at the work of a mechanic while he inspects or repairs your car. But you have to make a request first.
In such a case customers would have to wear appropriate work clothes and work shoes.
Sometimes it also happens that the mechanic asks the customer to enter the shop and shows him the wear on brakes, tires, or other parts.
This leads to transparency and brings confidence. However it may be impossible for practical reasons to offer a kind of Glass-Car-Repair where customers always see what happens to their car.
What about a carpenter's workshop? The smell of wood and glue is everywhere as you would imagine it and carpenters normally have nothing against a visit. But as a visitor you should never touch anything and be always accompanied with an employee or the master himself. The machinery in the carpenter workshop is quite dangerous for the layman and the dangers of combining careless visitors and running machinery are not to underestimate.
Interestingly, there are not only craft machines in the workshop. Many visitors are surprised that the carpenter uses also a computers for his work and not only in his office. CNC-controlled machineries use the dimensions given by the computer to cut the wood very accurately.
